Ryan Kavanaugh, son of Jack Kavanaugh and Leslie Levin Kavanaugh, was Relativity Media’s founder and CEO. Relativity Media is famous for engaging in several aspects of entertainment. That included film and television financing, production and distribution, and music publishing. It even ventured into sports management and digital media.
Relativity Media produced, distributed, and structured financing for more than two hundred motion pictures. Those films generated over seventeen billion dollars in worldwide box-office revenue. Those motion pictures also earned sixty Oscar nominations. Ryan Kavanaugh was Variety’s Showman of the Year 2011. The Hollywood Reporter honored him with the 2010 Leadership Award. At the 13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala, he received the 2009 Hollywood Producer of the Year Award.
In July 2015, Relativity filed for bankruptcy. It was in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The company decided to register after getting hit with several lawsuits and missing loan payments. It emerged from bankruptcy in March 2016, only to file again for bankruptcy two years later. UltraV Holdings, the new parent company, now operates the studio.
Kavanaugh also served as chairman of the board for The Art of Elysium. It is an organization encouraging artists to donate their time and talents. The beneficiaries are children battling severe medical conditions. Because of that, he received the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Board of Governor’s Hollywood Humanitarian Award. He is also a recipient of the Anti-Defamation League’s 2011 Entertainment Industry Award. His Sheriff’s Youth Foundation Community Champion Award was in recognition of his dedication to helping inner-city youth.
